Happy Mother’s Day to all the mothers out there! Mother’s Day is a special day and a great time to spend with family. I cannot tell you how many posts in my Facebook news feed were of people headed home to surprise their mom.
We do a family tradition in our house where we have to make Mother’s Day and Father’s Day gifts for each other. It is fun. Even better, when you get to make a mess! I have a love hate with Pinterest. The hate part stems from when my wife and I were getting married. She would always go on and look at Pinterest and come up with more ideas. More ideas meant more work or crafts for me.
Pinterest and my relationship with it
Fast forward a couple of years, and now we have two kids! Pinterest is where I went for Mother’s Day crafts. We decided to do a salt dough hand print bowl. Salt dough is easy to make. It is 2 cups flour, 1 cup of salt, and 1 cup of water. Then you roll it out and make some hand prints or foot prints. It is fun because you get to make a mess! Our neighbor helped us since I was having a little trouble getting our 2 year-old to focus!
Being a mother is not an easy task. I can remember reading a book before I became a father and it said something along the lines of just because your wife has had some babysitting experience, it doesn’t mean that she knows everything about raising a baby. But sometimes, I can see myself expecting my wife to know what to do. She might not know what to do, but she sure is better about taking action than I am. I think it is because I am afraid to screw things up.
When I think about Mother’s Day, I reflect on my own mother. She recently retired from being a 6th science teacher. She was always teaching us things whether we knew it or not. She would teach us how to navigate public transportation with her so that when we were older we knew our way around a big city like Boston. She taught us many other life lessons. Thank you mom!
Thank you to all the mothers out there. Hope your day was great and filled with family hugs and kisses! Happy Mother’s Day!
