It has been a while and life has been busy. Now that we got the hang of one, it is time to have a second child. The second child is on its way. We are going the surprise route so we do not know if it is a boy or a girl yet. This is cool because when our little guy was born, I actually knew he was a boy a couple seconds before my wife did!
A lot has happen since the last post. We had a two year old birthday party! It was a Mickey Mouse theme since our little guy loves Mickey Mouse and the clubhouse! “Oh, toodles!” But we made it a theme of “Oh, two-dles!” We had a lot of games planned and all the kids wanted to do was run around the couch. Parenting has definitely taught me how to be flexible.
What is it like this time around for a second child. It feels like no big deal. But it is a big deal. Our lives are going to change and will never be the same. I know it is for the better. But it can be intimidating and there might be times like, “what have we done?” I am feeling more confident since I know a little bit of what to expect. But every kid is different. So we are excited to meet you #2 and we will figure this all out together. I might make some mistakes, but I will learn from them and get better.
I am starting to figure out tantrums and discipline is a whole other topic for two year-olds. I am learning to calm down tantrums and take our time. I learned about a concept called “slow parenting” the other day. I am trying to embrace this. Slow parenting is not rushing your children and instead moving at their pace. For example, as an adult we move at a quicker rate.
But to a child things are amazing. The other day we found a spider inside the house so we decided to pick it up and set it free. The next 45 minutes was spent being a scientist and studying the spider in his/her natural element outside. It was fun and we took our time.
Take your time and enjoy the ride. I promise to post some more before life gets too busy!
